OK PART 2 of Nick going to school with a struggle....

Yesterday was hectic and I had a neighbor take him in hopes he wouldn't put up a struggle. It kinda worked in the fact he didn't vomit in the car (thank you Jesus!)He made it thru the day and came home happy like always.

I was given some advice from a GREAT mommy friend who has a friend who went thru the same thing. A book called "Freeing your Child from Anxiety" which I did get and "Overcoming School Anxiety". I came home last night and power read the first few chapters of both books. I am really bad about doing this but what I found so far is working.

This morning he had a "sore throat" and I kept changing the subject and would say I love how excited you are when you come home, I miss you during the day but you have so much fun learning at school and at the end of the day you can teach us what you learn and when you get home today we are having a painting project. I also started our chore chart again that has very simple chores along with not crying. At the end of the week if you have collected all the stars they get to pick something from the goodie bag. That seems to work very well in the past.

I am trying not to bribe or make a big deal of this to him. I will continue to give positive thoughts and encouragement. I was also telling Nick this morning lets take a deep breath. It is not worth getting all worked up because I have noticed he starts breathing very heavy which causes him to cough and gag.

In case you are wondering.... Yes there really is something called School Anxiety and kids do suffer from it. It can be way worse than Nick is acting but I don't want it to get to that. I have also learned that it could have come down to this from a bully, learning disability, being pushed to do more that normally expected and some people just have bad anxiety or OCD and are trying to constantly please people such as a teacher. I am looking at all the options just to make sure it is none of these. I do know he aims to please and he likes to go at "his own pace". He is a very laid back calm child so when things around him seem to be "spinning out of control" he is bothered by that. ( He gets it from his dad:) )

So besides that not much else is going on around here..... Natalie has decided to play softball again. That makes me happy! Lauren is starting baseball season for her 2nd year as a Diamond Doll and Ashlynn is growing more and more everyday.

Life is great and I have no complaints. I love having a big family with lots of love. I love our communication we have and the fun times we share.
